How To

Greenpeace

Greenpeace is considered by many as the original eco-warrior. If there’s an environmental disaster afoot, its team is often the first on the scene to offer assistance. This determination to speak out and be heard makes us proud to consider Greenpeace a friend of Ecover. Like us, everything Greenpeace does comes from a firm belief that there’s a better way, and like us they’ve been fighting for years to encourage the world to adopt one.

Its achievements to date are astounding. Greenpeace first came to the world’s attention when its protests led the US to abandon nuclear testing in Alaska in 1972. Since then, it has stopped radioactive waste being dumped in the sea, helped to enforce a ban on the slaughter of seal pups, persuaded oil companies not to ditch disused rigs in the ocean, exposed illegal logging and fought tirelessly to save the whales. And that’s only the half of it. More recently, it has made toy manufacturers Mattel re-think the materials they use for packaging, persuaded Princes to change the way they fish for tuna and encouraged Nestle to stop buying Palm oil from sources that destroy the Indonesian rainforest.

With an army of fearless supporters and an impressive fleet of ships, including the recently launched, successor to their world famous flagship, the Rainbow Warrior, Greenpeace is a force to be reckoned with. It works hard to protect our forests, oceans and agriculture, it fights against nuclear power and pollution, and it strives to promote peace and disarmament. In their words, “Greenpeace exists because this fragile Earth deserves a voice. It needs solutions. It needs change. It needs action.”

We’re supporting Greenpeace at the launch of the new Rainbow Warrior III. One of the ways we’re helping out is by stocking the ship with Ecover – an offer that’s been gratefully received by Greenpeace because they know our products won’t pollute the oceans we all hold so dear. We hope it’s just the first of many ways we’ll be able to support them in future.
